The 148 meter long, 13760 dwt container ship Mito Strait allided with the lock wall in the Kiel Canal at Brunsbuettel, Germany. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The lock wall sustained significant damage.
Aviso
The 70 meter long self-propelled cement tanker-barge Aviso allided with the George Schweitzer Bridge on the Old Rhine River at Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands. The Aviso was passing under the bridge when the vessel’s wheelhouse struck the bridge deck. No reports of injuries. The wheelhouse was destroyed disabling the vessel. The bridge suffered only minor scrapes. The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
