Baltic-Breeze

The 99 meter long ro-ro car carrier Neckar Highway collided with the 164 meter long car carrier Baltic Breeze in the entry section of the Pierre Vandamme lock in Zeebrugge, Belguim. The Neckar Highway was proceeding alongside the starboard side of the moored Baltic Breeze toward the lock when the Baltic Breeze shifted and the two vessel collided. No reports of injuries. The Neckar Highway proceeded to a nearby quay. The Baltic Breeze was taken under tow by 2 tugs.

The 110 meter long, 2792 ton self-propelled barge Bavaria 83 ran aground on the Danube near Parkstetten, Germany. The vessel had run onto a sand bank and was swung perpendicular to the river blocking traffic. The crew requested for a rescue boat to assist it, but the barge was able to refloat itself aided by the strong current later the same day.  The Bavaria 83 then proceeded to a nearby anchorage to inspect the hull for damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Bavaria 83 was en route to Austria with 1600 tons of iron.

The 105 meter long passenger ship Da Vinci caught fire while at anchor on the Rhine at Basel, Switzerland. The fire started in the lower deck of the vessel in the laundry releasing dense smoke.  The 67 passengers and 25 crew were able to evacuate the vessel.  One person suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital.  The local fire brigade from Basel-Stadt were able to extinguish the blaze.
