On September 21, the 96 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Mercandia IV allided with the pier in the port of Helsingborg, Sweden. The Mercandia IV was making a regular voyage from Helsingør, Denmark with 124 passengers and 19 crew. As the ferry entered the port, it struck a pier in the harbor. The vessel was holed on the starboard side of the bow. The bow door was too far damaged in the collision to be operated and the Mercandia IV backed into its berth. Passengers reported that the impact cause glasses and dishes to smashed onto the floor.  One passenger and one crewman were injured and were taken to hospital.  No reports of pollution released.  The following day the vessel was inspected and later taken to a shipyard for repairs.


Voyager

The passenger ship Voyager ran aground on Little Island near Juneau, Alaska. The Voyager was on a day cruise with 14 passengers went it ran aground.  The vessel contacted  the Coast Guard who dispatched a 25 foot long response boat to the scene. The Coast Guard assisted in transferring the 14 passengers off the Voyager to another nearby tour boat.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Voyager was later refloated and escorted to Auke Bay.

The 52 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Christine allided with a pole near the harbor on Fejø Island, Denmark. The Christine had become disabled after a lightning strike while making the crossing in heavy rain and strong winds. The ferry was unable to slow down and struck a pole near the ferry landing.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. Reports state the Christine was taken out of service for repairs.
