The 110 meter long, 1215 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Schulpengat caught fire while off Den Helder, Netherlands. The fire started in a 400-volt switch in a control room below deck. Crew spotted the smoke and quickly cut electricity to the switch. The crew then pumped CO2 into the space which quickly stopped the smoke. Local authorities were alerted to the situation and two tugs accompanied the ferry back to port. All passengers were safely unloaded and no reports of panic on board during the incident. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Reports state the ferry was taken out of service for further investigation and repairs.

The 173 meter long, 26,052 dwt general cargo vessel Zealand Amalia became disabled in the Black Sea near the approach to the mouth of the Bosporus. The vessel had suffered engine failure and had dropped anchor a few miles off the Turkish coast.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Zealand Amalia was en route to Venice from Mariupol.

The 187 meter long, 46807 dwt bulk carrier Jian Qiang ran aground in the Gulf of Mexico off Beaumont, Texas. The Jian Qiang was loaded with sulfur when it ran hard aground while outbound into the gulf.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Coast Guard and local authorities are monitoring the situation as plans to free the bulk carrier are being developed. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
