SMEW

The 180 meter long, 35998 dwt bulk carrier Smew ran aground on the Parana River near San Pedro, Argentina. The Smew was en route to Callao, Peru from San Lorenzo, Argentina with 32000 tons of flour and soybeans when it stranded on the river. Traffic was halted on the river for several hours until the Smew was able to work itself free. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On May 20, the 78 meter long, 2408 dwt tanker Moresby 9 allided with a bridge over the Trang River near Phuket, Thailand. The Moresby 9 was en route to a repair yard when it suffered engine failure and lost power. Strong currents and wind pushed the disabled tanker into the bridge causing severe damage to the bridge. Some 10 meters of concrete on the bridge was crushed and closed the bridge to all traffic. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 98 meter long dredge Oceanline 208 capsized off Pengerang, Malaysia.  The Oceanline 208 was carrying sand from Teluk Ramunia when it capsized after struck by large waves during the early morning hours.  One of the 15 crew on board was rescued by a passing vessel and alerted authorities of the incident. Authorities responded to the scene with multiple vessels with 10 divers on standby. The rescue vessels towed the Oceanline 208 to Tanjung Punga so that divers could conduct a search inside the overturn vessel for the missing crew. After searching the vessel, the efforts were suspended with no additional survivors found.
