The 116 meter long, 10292 dwt cargo vessel Marine Diamond ran aground in the port of Nagoya, Japan. The Marine Diamond was departing for Yokkaichi with a cargo of lumber when it struck bottom. The cargo vessel remain aground until the following high tide when a tug was able to refloat it. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 148 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Af Francesca caught fire off the Apulian Coast near Bari, Italy.  The ferry was proceeding from Bari to Durres, Albania with 203 passengers and 53 crew when a fire broke out in the engine room.  The crew was able to put the blaze out a short time later.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. The fire disabled the vessel and tugs were requested.  A tug arrived and towed the Af Francesca to Bari.  All passengers safely departed and were transferred to other vessels.  Authorities launched an investigation into the incident.

SCHAPRODE

On May 11, the 40 meter long passenger ship Schaprode allided with a moored fire boat off the Ippen Quay in Stralsund, Germany.  Both vessels sustained damage above the waterline. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The water police launch an investigation into the incident and the Schaprode was allowed to continue its voyage to Zingst.
