Tokaj 2

The 86 meter long self-propelled barge Tokaj 2 allided with a railroad bridge over IJssel River near Zutphen, Netherlands. The wheelhouse of the Tokaj 2 was torn off, but no one was injured in the incident. Rail traffic was halted while the bridge until it was inspected. No reports of damage to the bridge or pollution released.

The 85 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Idris caught fire on the Merwede Canal while berthed at Gorinchem, Netherlands.  The fire started in the living quarters of the vessel.  Smoke was spotted and the local fire brigade responded to the scene.  Fire fighters were able to extinguish the blaze. Fire damage was limited to the living quarters.  No injuries as no one was on board the Idris at the time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On February 29, the 280 meter long, 161121 dwt bulk carrier New Mykonos ran aground near Faux Cap, Madagascar. The bulk carrier was en route from Richards Bay to Vizag loaded with coal. Unable to refloat itself, the vessel requested assistance.  The owners contracted with a salvage company to refloat the vessel.  Reports stated multiple tugs have arrived on scene to begin refloating efforts
