On March 10, the fishing vessel Ms. Nicani became disabled in a severe storm off Yaquina Bay, Oregon. The fishing vessel was a few miles off shore when a wave smashed the pilothouse window and ruin the electrical systems.  The disabled Ms. Nicani requested assistance with two Coast Guard  47-foot Motor Life Boat responding. The Coast Guard was able to connect a towline to the Ms. Nicani, but the vessels remained off shore until conditions improve.  Reports state that waves were between 20 to 25 foot high making it impossible to cross the Yaquina Bay bar.  No reports of injuries to the three crew on board the Ms. Nicani.

The 84 foot long tugboat The Specialist allided and sank on the Hudson River near the Tappan Zee Bridge, New York. The tug was pushing a barge from Albany and was headed to Jersey City when it struck another barge moored at the construction site around the Tappan Zee Bridge.  The Specialist quickly sank after the allision. Reports state all three crew on board perished. Authorities searched the area and found one of the tug’s crewmen in the water, but the other two were still missing. Pollution was spotted around the sunken tug as the vessel had some 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel on board.

MAGTYMGULY

The 115 meter long, 3152 dwt cargo vessel Magtymguly struck an underwater object on the Volga River near Olya, Russia. The vessel was en route to Nowshahr, Iran from Olya with a cargo of wheat when it hit an unknown object.  The Magtymguly suffered hull damage and  water ingress in its steering compartment. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
