On August 20, the 90 meter long, 4156 dwt cargo vessel Alfa became disabled off Yeosu, South Korea. The Alfa was en route to China from Nakhodka with a cargo of timber when it encountered heavy seas in the Korea Strait. The timber cargo on board the Alfa shifted causing the cargo vessel to develop a heavy list of 45 degrees. With the vessel in danger of capsizing, the crew requested assistance. The South Korean Coast Guard responded and was able to safely evacuate all 15 crew on board. No reports of injuries.

The abandoned Alfa drifted with the heavy seas before it ran aground between Jeju and Tsushima Island. Reports state part of the timber cargo has fallen overboard posing a potential hazard to vessels in the area.

On August 19, the 33 meter long, 148 gt passenger ship Jens Albrecht ran aground just outside the port of Horumersiel, Germany. The vessel requested assistance with the DGzRS lifeboat responding. The lifeboat was unable to pull the Jens Albrecht free due to the receding tide, but was able to re-float the passenger ship on the following high tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On August 20, the 37 foot long passenger ship King Eider became disabled in Brace Cove near Gloucester, Massachusetts. The King Eider was cruising with 34 passengers when the passenger ship sprung a leak. The King Eider sent out a distress call with a nearby fishing vessel, Coast Guard lifeboat and other vessels from local authorities responding. The fishing vessel Lisa & Jake arrived on the scene first and took the passenger ship under tow while pumps on board the King Eider brought the flooding under control. The Coast Guard lifeboat arrived a short time later and assisted with additional dewatering pumps. The vessels proceeded into Gloucester where all the passengers disembarked. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The cause of the flooding was not reported.
