The 49 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Noord Nederland caught fire while off the port of Terschelling, Netherlands. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room. The crew was alerted by the smoke and requested assistance. The KNRM and port authorities escorted the Noord Nederland into Terschelling where local fire brigade was able to bring the fire under control. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Reports state the fire caused minimal damage and the ferry was allowed to proceed later on its voyage to Harlingen.

The 50 meter long passenger ro-ro ferry Insula Oya 2 ran aground in the Fromentine Channel off Vendée, France. The Insula Oya 2 was enroute from Fromentine to Yeu when it stranded on a sandbar. The vessel remained “high-and-dry” as the ferry was left on the bar in the receding tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The SNSM lifeboat from Fromentine arrived on scene and transferred the two passengers from the Insula Oya 2 back to shore. During the next high tide, multiple SNSM lifeboats were able to refloat the Insula Oya 2.

The 158 meter long bulk carrier Tolunay collided with the Turkish Coast Guard boat SG-25 in the Bosphorus, Turkey. The Tolunay was headed to Odessa from Casablanca when it struck the SG-25 causing it to capsize. Six of the seven crew members of the SG-25 were later rescued, but one man remained missing. Three of the rescued sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. The Tolunay proceeded to the anchorage off Buyukdere while authorities conduct an investigation.
