The 71 foot long, 110 gt fishing vessel Lydia & Maya suffered uncontrolled flooding in the Gulf of Maine off Southwest Harbor, Maine. The crew alerted the Coast Guard that the fishing vessel was taking on water. A short time later, the EPIRB from the Lydia & Maya was sounded. The Coast Guard launched the 47-foot long response boat along with a Jayhawk helicopter to the scene. The helicopter arrived on scene and found the four crew of the Lydia & Maya in a life raft.  All four crew were hoisted to safety.  All four men were suffering from hypothermia and were taken to hospital for treatment. The fate of the Lydia & Maya was not reported. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

On August 15, the 80 foot long fishing vessel Lady Gertrude sank off Sandy Hook, New Jersey. The Lady Gertrude was fishing for scallops when the vessel sprung a leak. The crew were unable to stop the flooding and were forced to abandon the Lady Gertrude into the vessel’s life raft. The nearby fishing vessel Mazey James came to their aid and rescued all three crew. No reports of injuries. Reports state the Lady Gertrude later sank and rests in 130 feet of water. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

The 108 meter long cargo vessel Omskiy 141 ran aground on the Svir River. The Omskiy 141 was en route to Cherepovets from St. Petersburg with 3000 tons of steel cargo when it struck bottom. The cargo vessel sustained hull damage in a ballast tank in the forepeak resulting in water ingress. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
