The 145 meter long container ship Chang Rong 8 ran aground in the Taiwan Strait off Dongjia Island, Fuzhou, China. The Chang Rong 8 was headed to Haikou from Rizhao when it suffered engine failure. The boxship drifted onto shallow waters and ran up on the rocks. The Chang Rong 8 sustained hull damage with multiple breaches in the engine room. The crew tried in vain to control the water ingress, but the compartment flooded. Local authorities were alerted and dispatched a rescue ship to the scene. Seven of the 16 crew were evacuated while the remaining crew stayed on board to assist in salvage efforts. No reports of injuries.  Authorities later reported of some oily water released around the vessel.
