The 62 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Sterna allided with a pontoon at the ferry terminal in Lillmälö, Pargas, Finland. The ferry was arriving with 21 passengers when it suffered  a malfunction and struck the pontoon at a high rate of speed.

The Sterna struck hard enough that the pontoon became entangled with its hull.  Reports state one ramp also sustained significant damage. The damaged ramp was completely unusable preventing some 16 vehicles to be unloaded.

Reports state some of the 21 passengers required some medical attention, but no reports of injuries. The Sterna was taken out of service for repairs.

On June 11, the 174 meter long, 33526 dwt tanker Chemroad Journey ran aground in the South China Sea near Phu Quy Island, Vietnam. The Chemroad Journey was headed to Zhuhai from Al Jubail with 30,000 tons of chemicals (butanal, ethylene glycol, monoethanolamine) and 800 tons of fuel oil when it ran up on the rocky bottom.

The tanker sustained hull damage to the ballast tanks and suffered water ingress. Unable to control the flooding, the Chemroad Journey developed a 15 degree list to port.  No reports of injuries to the 27 crew on board.

Authorities state there is a strong concern about pollution being released. A response team was monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts with the vessel’s owners to prevent any property damage and environmental pollution in the area. Reports state a Japanese salvage team has been contracted to survey and salvage the tanker.

The 185 meter long, 42529 dwt bulk carrier Thor Endeavour allided with the 28 meter long tugboat Bugsier 15 allided at the entrance to the lock of the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Thor Endeavour had arrived from Ijmuiden and was being assisted by the tug Bugsier 15 into the lock. Upon entering the lock, the Thor Endeavour allided with the Bugsier 15 pushing the tug into the lock gate.

The Bugsier 15 had suffered just minor damage with part of its fendering torn. The lock gate did sustain some damage requiring a closer inspection.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. The water police did not detain the bulk carrier.  The Thor Endeavour proceeded on it’s voyage through the canal with two tugs assisting.
