On January 18, the 90 meter long, 4198 dwt general cargo vessel Tarzan allided with the lock wall on the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Tarzan was headed for Liepaja, Latvia from Eemshaven, Netherlands when it entered the northern lock at Brunsbüttel. The vessel struck the side wall resulting in a two to three meter scratch along the port side of the vessel. Authorities detained the Tarzan for inspection before allowing it to proceed on its voyage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Reports state the cause of the incident was due to a miscommunication.
