On July 22, the former fishing vessel now houseboat Endeavor ran into difficulties as it was being towed to shore for repairs in Snow’s Cove in Rockland, Maine . The Endeavor‘s cement hull had begun to leak and the vessel was being towed by a lobster boat when it became swamped and went ashore. Maine authorities along with the United States Coast Guard were alerted to the situation.  Authorities placed booms around the vessel to contain any fuel that was released from the vessel.  Reports state the remaining diesel fuel on board was being removed to prevent any potential environmental risks.  There were no injuries reported.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

On July 17, the 16 meter long, 242 gt fishing vessel Emma Louise – TO60 (IMO: 8664151) sprung a leak in the Celtic Sea off Pendeen, Cornwall, England. The Emma Louise requested assistance with the RNLI lifeboat from Sennen Cove responding. The 16 meter long RNLI lifeboat City of London III (MMSI: 235050719) arrived with the Emma Louise bringing dewatering pumps. After three dewatering pumps were onboard the fishing vessel, the lifeboat escorted the Emma Louise back to Newlyn.  When the vessels reached Land’s End, the 17 meter long RNLI lifeboat from Penlee, the Ivan Ellen (MMSI: 235005122), took over the escorting duty. The vessels arrived in Newlyn harbour safely.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Eco Wizard

Eco Wizard

On July 6, the 180 meter long, 30062 dwt LPG tanker Eco Wizard (IMO: 9941568) exploded in the Gulf of Finland while berthed at the port of Ust-Luga, Russia. The Eco Wizard had arrived from Antwerp, Belgium and had begun unloading and loading operations. Authorities state an explosion occurred during these operations resulting in a leak of liquid ammonia. All 23 crew were evacuated from the tanker while emergency personnel attempted to contain the leak.  Authorities did not disclose the extent of damage to the Eco Wizard, but divers are set to inspect the hull for damage. The Eco Wizard is suspected to belong to Russia’s “shadow fleet” and there is some speculation the explosion was an act of sabotage.
