Ironhide

On the night of August 5, the 78 meter long, 3262 dwt cargo vessel Ironhide (IMO: 8802466) became disabled on the Bosphorus near Karanfil Burnu, Turkey. The Ironhide was proceeding to Haifa from Varna when it suffered main engine failure. The cargo vessel requested assistance with the tugboats Kurtarma 18 (IMO: 9974890) and Kurtarma 19 (IMO: 9995129) responding. The two tugs towed the Ironhide to a nearby anchorage at Karanlık Liman. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Reports state the Ironhide has had prior issues this year. Authorities found 32 deficiencies during an inspection earlier this spring. The cargo vessel was detained for several days to do repairs before it was allowed to proceed.

Ishikawa Maru

On the night of August 3, the fishing vessel Ishikawa Maru capsized fishing boat in the Seto Inland Sea some 18 kilometers southeast of the southern tip of Cape Motoyama near Onoda City, Japan. The Ishikawa Maru had been fishing with 2 persons on board, the master of the vessel and his wife, when it was struck by another vessel during the night. The collision caused the  Ishikawa Maru to rollover and capsize sending both people on board into the water.

When the Ishikawa Maru had to arrived back to port at its usual time, a member of the fishing cooperative alerted authorities.  The Japanese Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation in the area and found the captain clinging to the bottom of the overturn fishing vessel. He had sustained minor injuries. The Coast Guard also found his wife, but reports state she had perished.

The Japanese Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident. The incident is being classified as a hit-and-run. An inspection of the Ishikawa Maru hull show signs of collision marks.

Ingulsky J

On the night of July 23, the 61 meter long, 900 dwt hopper dredger Ingulsky J (IMO: 9646912) exploded on the Danube near Vilkovo, Ukraine. The Ingulsky J while dredging in the Bystre estuary when it struck a mine which exploded. The dredge sustained significant damage and sank in the waterway.  The explosion killed 3 crew and injured 8 others on board the dredge. The injured crew were taken to hospital for treatment. Reports state the Danube remains open with the southern Sulin Channel open to commercial traffic. The Bystre has been open to commercial vessels after Ukraine liberated Snake Island from Russian control. Ukrainian authorities are investigating incident.
