Joon Sung Ho

The 90 meter long, 1828 dwt fishing vessel Joon Sung Ho became disabled in Bering Sea off the Gulf of Anadyr, Russia.  The fishing vessel after the propeller was entangled in it’s nets.  The salvage tug Rubin proceeded to the scene and took the fishing vessel to protected waters.  Divers dismantled the propeller and remove the nets.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Jennifer C Explosion

The 65 foot fishing vessel Jennifer C suffered an explosion and fire while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico off Port Mansfield, TexasThe Coast Guard was alerted by an emergency beacon and dispatched an aircraft to the scene.  The aircraft spotted the vessel as the crew fired flares into the air.  The aircraft was able to drop a portable marine band radio to the crew on the Jennifer C.   The crew of 4 reported they were uninjured and were able to extinguish the fire.  However, the Jennifer C was disabled and had water ingress in the bilge.   The Coast Guard dispatched vessels to the scene.   Luckily, the Jennifer C was taken under tow by another fishing vessel until a Coast Guard cutter arrived.   No details reported to the cause of the explosion.

Janice Ruth II Sunk

The 47 foot long fishing vessel Janice Ruth II sank at its berth at Valdez, Alaska.   The vessel was discovered listed over to starboard submerged at the docks.  No one was on board at the time of the sinking.   Authorities placed an oil boom and sorbent pads around the vessel to contain the pollution released.  The Janice Ruth II has a capacity for 500 gallons of diesel and 24 gallons of hydraulic oil, but no details to how much was on board at the time.  Reports state the vessel was bank-owned.
