Yong Win 3

On October 15, the 96 meter long, 11628 dwt tanker Yong Win 3 capsized and sank off Little Liouchiou, Taiwan.   The tanker was carrying more than 5,000 tons of diesel fuel when the vessel developed a heavy list.  The crew sealed the tanker’s oil storage compartments before abandoning ship. A rescue boat was able to safely rescue all the crew.  No injuries were reported.  The Coast Guard stated that no major pollution has been spotted and patrol craft remain at the scene to monitor the situation. The cause of the heavy list was not known.

Yuan Heng

The 69 meter long, 1598 dwt freighter Yuan Heng was blown aground off Pamarawan, Philippines.   The freighter had been anchored when the waves from the typhoon Labuyo cause its anchor to drag.   No crew was on board at the time.   The Yuan Heng had been anchored Lucanin for over four years when it abandoned by the owner after failing to pay harbor fees.  The freighter had its engine removed and was vessel was covered in rust.  No reports of pollution.

Yara Gas II

The 72 meter long, 1964 dwt tanker Yara Gas II suffered a fire in the Gulf of Finland near Helsinki, Finland.   The Yara Gas II was headed to Porvoo in ballast when a fire broke out in the engine room.   The crew quickly responded and was able to extinguish the blaze. The Coast Guard dispatched a patrol boat and rescue helicopter to the scene. Reports state the vessel had drifted into Estonian waters and has dropped anchor.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.
