The 84 meter long, 1157 gt fishing vessel Arkos Ichiapas caught fire in the Pacific Ocean off Puerto Chiapas, Mexico. The fire started in a supply room by a butane tank. The crew requested assistance with a patrol ship responding. A team from the patrol vessel boarded the Arkos Ichiapas and extinguished the blaze. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Black Pearl

On April 26, the 101 meter long, 7226 dwt tanker Black Pearl became disabled in the Coral Sea near Gladstone, Australia. The Black Pearl was en route to Gladstone from Kaohsiung when it suffered engine failure.  A tug was dispatched and took the tanker under tow before it drifted ashore. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Last Stand

The 42 foot long fishing vessel Last Stand sank off Cape May, New Jersey. The Last Stand was heading back to port when it was struck by the 78 foot long Tug Dean Reinauer.  The three crew on board scrambled into survival suits and abandoned into the vessel’s life raft. The vessel sank within minutes.  A Coast Guard  response boat arrived on scene and rescued the crew. No reports of injuries.  The incident is under investigation.
