The 16 meter long fishing vessel Cygogne caught fire in the English Channel off Fecamp, France.   The fire started in the vessel’s engine room.   The four men on board attempted to douse the flames, but all their attempts failed.  The men abandoned ship into a liferaft.   The container ship WES Janine rescued the men a short time later.   A rescue helicopter transferred the men to Le Havre where they were later taken to hospital.  No reports of injuries.  A tug was dispatched to the scene as the burning Cygogne was a danger to navigation.   The tug was unable to extinguish the flames before the vessel burned to the water’s edge and sank.  The tug reported some debris floating around the area where the Cygogne sank.
