On September 11, the 110 meter long, 6665 dwt cargo vessel Kvitsand (IMO: 9313797) became disabled on the Nordfjord near Skatestraumen, Norway. the Kvitsand was enroute from Maløy when it suffered main engine failure and power blackout.  The cargo vessel went adrift and nearly ran ashore when the nearby 35 meter long, 489 gt trawler Vestbris (IMO: 9514133) arrived on scene. The Vestbris established a towline and was able to keep the Kvitsand off the rocks.

An half an hour later, the NSSR rescue boat Simard Buholmen arrived from Maløy and took over the towline from the Vestbris. Later the same day, the crew of the Kvitsand were able to restart the engine. A tug also arrived on scene and escorted the Kvitsand to Florø.  There the cargo vessel had divers inspect the hull for any damage. The following day, the Kvitsand was allowed to proceed on its voyage to Eikefet.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
