Bump on the Rhine

The 110 meter long self-propelled barge La Mattanza collided with the 36 meter long towboat Orava on the Rhine River near Orsoy, Germany.  The Orava was departing from Orsoy with a barge loaded with cargo of coal when it struck the nearby La Mattanza.  Both vessels suffered some hull damage and water ingress.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Authorities  state the two vessels were allowed to continue as the on-board pumps had the water ingress under control.

The 70 meter long, 2193 dwt bulk carrier Priyanka went adrift near Revdanda, India.  The Priyanka was en route from Mumbai to a dock near Revdanda with 19 metric tons of iron ore pellets.  As the vessel arrived off Revdanda, conditions prevented the Priyanka  to berth.  The crew dropped anchor and waited for the weather to improve.  A few hours later, the vessel’s anchor line parted and the Priyanka drifted towards the shore.  The vessel’s cargo of iron ore shifted and the vessel listed over to port.  The crew requested assistance with the Indian Coast Guard responding.  Five crew on the Priyanka launched the vessel’s life raft and abandoned ship.  The remaining crew were airlifted by a Coast Guard helicopter to safety.  No reports of injuries. Reports state the Coast Guard was able to secure the vessel and drop anchor again.

Just In Time

Just In Time

The 32 foot fishing vessel Just In Time suffered water ingress in Bristol Bay off Dillingham, Alaska. The  vessel sent out a mayday requesting assistance.  The Alaskan State Troopers patrol vessels responded to the scene.  They providing a dewatering pump and damage control kit while escorting the fishing vessel back to Dillingham.  No reports of injuries to the 4 crew on board.
