Mehmet Bey
The 131 meter long, 8764 dwt cargo vessel Mehmet Bey became disabled on the Bosphorus. The vessel had suffered engine failure and gone adrift. Authorities were alerted and dispatched a tug to the scene. The Mehmet Bey was taken under tow to a safe anchorage. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
Akel
The 72 meter long, 1,105 dwt cargo vessel Akel collided with the 60 meter long Sengul K in the Bosphorus near the entrance to the Black Sea. The Akel was struck by the Sengul K in good visibility. Reports state the officer on board the Sengul K made a last second maneuver veering into the Akel. The Akel suffered uncontrolled water ingress caused the cargo vessel to capsized and sink. One crewman was killed, but the 11 other crew members were rescued. The Sengul K suffered slight damage to its bow, but no reports of injuries. The Akel was en route to Istanbul from Kartal.
