On December 14, the 199 meter long bulk carrier KM London ran aground on the Columbia River off Crims Island near Longview, Washington. The KM London was headed for Japan with a cargo of wheat when it veered off course and ran aground. The bulker sustained damage to its forepeak and suffered water ingress. The Coast Guard was alerted by the crew of the incident. The Coast Guard dispatched a response team to scene. Aircraft were dispatched and found no oil pollution had been released.

The KM London was refloated by tugs the next day with the high tide. Three tugs escorted the vessel back to Longview where it can be surveyed of damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

The 200 meter long, 63577 dwt bulk carrier Nautical Runa ran aground on the Weser River near Brake, Germany. The Nautical Runa had been tied up to a quay to unload cargo when it’s mooring lines snapped. The bulk carrier drifted from the quay and ran aground perpendicular to the fairway blocking commercial traffic.  Tugs were dispatched and were able to keep the Nautical Runa in place during low tide. A few hours later with the rising tide, the tugs were able to refloat the Nautical Runa and tow it back to its berth. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 55 meter long coaster cargo vessel Lu Di 67 collided with the 190 meter, 56928 dwt bulk carrier Li Dian 2 in the Waigaoqiao Channel, Shanghai, China. The Lu Di 67 was struck by the Li Dian 2 resulting in hull breach and uncontrolled water ingress. The crew quickly abandoned ship into the canal before the Lu Di 67 sank. Seven crew were later rescued from the water by patrol boats. One crewman was reported as missing. Authorities report some pollution was seen near the incident site.
