A tug was found stranded off the coast of Puducherry, India.  The tug was en route to Chennai from Karaikal with 12 crew when it suffered a mechanical breakdown with its main engine. The vessel went adrift and the crew dropped anchor off the coast. Authorities have arrived on the scene and are monitoring the situation. Reports state the tug was typically employed in assisting vessels entering Chennai harbor and will proceed to there after its engine is repaired. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On May 29, the 47 meter long, 572 dwt fishing vessel Kapitan Varganov became disabled on the Barents Sea near Murmansk, Russia. The Kapitan Varganov had suffered a mechanical breakdown and went adrift while en route to Murmansk with its cargo of 160 tons of prawns. The vessel requested assistance with a salvage tug responding to the scene. The tug towed the Kapitan Varganov to Murmansk arriving the next day. No reports of injuries to the 23 crew, damage or pollution released.

The 35 meter long fishing vessel Kas Ken HG-77 became disabled off Gonvika, Norway. The Kas Ken HG-77 went adrift in 5 meter waves when its propeller became fouled by its own net.  The 4 man crew was pulling up the net when it jammed into the vessel’s propeller.  The crew requested assistance with the Coast Guard vessel and NSSR lifeboat responding. The rescue boats arrived and took the Kas Ken HG-77 under tow back to Gonvika.  There the net was cut free by divers. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
