The 24 meter long fishing vessel Skårholm caught fire while berthed at Karmøy, Norway. The fire broke out in the wheelhouse spewing out smoke.  The crew attempted to extinguish the blaze but were driven back.  The local fire brigade was called and was quickly able to control the blaze.  A few hours later the fire was completed extinguished.  The fire completely gutted the wheelhouse. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On October 18, the 10 meter long fishing vessel Frisk Fisk S521 allided with the quay at Skagen, Denmark.  The Frisk Fisk was arriving at the quay when it suffered as steering failure when a cable snapped. Unable to steer, the fishing vessel struck the quay sustaining significant bow damage. The local rescue station responded to the scene.  Using a dewatering pump, they were able to keep the Frisk Fisk afloat to allow the crew to unload the cargo of fish and lobsters.  However, an hour later the Frisk Fisk sank to the bottom.  The following day, a crane lifted the Frisk Fisk and hoist the vessel onto the quay.  Reports state the damage was enough to make the vessel a total loss. No reports of injuries.

The 16 meter long fishing vessel Jubilee sank off the coast of Canterbury, New Zealand. The three-man crew had contacted authorities that the vessel was in trouble and the crew was going to abandon ship into the vessel’s life raft.  A search and rescue operation was launched with two Coast Guard vessels, three commercial and several aircraft.  Search efforts were able to find the sunken Jubilee on the seabed in 40 meters of water roughly 20 kilometers off the coast.  Searchers also found the Jubilee’s life raft, but it was empty.  Search for the three missing crewmen was still going on.  The cause of the sinking was not known, but reports state there was bad weather in the area with large waves and strong winds reaching up to 70 kmh.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
