The 183 meter long, 46769 dwt bulk freighter Emily Manx allided on the Weser with the quay at Bremen, Germany. The quay suffered on scratches while the vessel suffered a 30 foot dent along its hull. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Authorities have detained the vessel while the incident is under investigation.
The 98 meter long, 5195 dwt freighter Jia Hui collided with the 1430 dwt freighter Eifuku Maru No. 18 off Izushima Island, Japan. The Eifuku Maru No. 18 was carrying a cargo of steel from Nagoya, Japan to Ichikawa when it was struck by the bow of the Jia Hui which was en route to Busan, South Korea from Kawasaki. The Eifuku Maru No. 18 capsized while the Jia Hui suffered only slight damage to its hull. Five crewmen of Eifuku Maru No. 18 were trapped when the vessel capsized. Their bodies were later recovered by divers. One other crewman was reported as missing. The Japanese Coast Guard dispatched patrol boats and helicopters to the scene to search for the crewman.
The Eifuku Maru No. 18 was launched in 2011.
An attempt was made to take the overturn Eifuku Maru No. 18 under tow, but efforts had to be abandoned as the freighter sank. No reports of injuries on the Jia Hui. Authorities have dispatched three officials to determine the cause of the collision.
The 165 meter long, 23587 dwt ro-rocargo vessel USS Harry L. Martin allided with the Mathews Bridge on the St. Johns River at Jacksonville, Florida. A tug was towing the Martin at the time when the Martin’s stern ramp struck the central span. No reports of injuries. The bridge suffered significant damage and all road traffic has been suspended. State authorities plan to send out inspectors to look at the damage and make a determination of the structure.

Authorities have placed a safety zone around the bridge and no river traffic is being permitted. A river pilot was on board at the time of the incident. The Martin was being towed to a ship yard in Jacksonville.
