Collision off Gothenburg

The 130 meter long, 11,258 dwt tanker Ternvind collided with the 182 meter long, 6,559 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Stena Jutlandica off the island of Vinga near Gothenburg, Sweden. The tanker had departed from Gothenburg en route to Halmstad when it struck the portside of the Stena Jutlandica. The ferry sustained significant hull damage with a several meter long hole above the waterline.  Reports state the Stena Jutlandica did suffer water ingress, but was able to proceed to Gothenburg under her own power.  Many of the 536 passengers on board were awoken by the sound of the crash, but no reports of injuries.  Authorities dispatched vessels to monitor the situation and inspect the vessels.  No pollution was released.  The Ternvind was last reported anchored off Vinga with no injuries or pollution released.

JONGLEUR

The 81 meter long, 3030 dwt cargo vessel Jongleur allided with a bridge at Gothenburg, Sweden. The Jongleur was passing under the Gota Alvbron Bridge when its mast struck the bridge.  Traffic was halted until inspectors could survey the bridge the following day.  No reports of injuries and damage was limited to a bent mast on the Jongleur.  Traffic was resumed on the bridge and the Jongleur continued on its voyage.

The 155 meter long, 2950 dwt ferry Stena Danica became disabled at Gothenburg, Sweden.  The ferry suffered a power blackout while approaching the quay in the harbour.   To avoid alliding with the quay, the Stena Danica dropped its anchors.  Three tugs arrived and assisted the ferry to its berth.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.  The vessel cancelled the following scheduled voyage.  This is the second reported power failure on the vessel in the last seven days.
