Erol Senkaya

The 74 meter long, 2772 dwt freighter Erol Senkaya capsized off Zakynthos, Greece.   The Erol Senkaya, loaded with 2200 tons of olive pits, was headed for Zakynthos when the cargo shifted causing the vessel to overturn some 10 miles offshore.   The master along with three crewmen were killed.   Six other crewmen were later saved by rescue vessels.  There is some concern that some pollution will be released from the 10 tons of fuel oil still on board the Erol Senkaya. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Parnassos II

Parnassos II

The 97 meter long, 4470 dwt freighter Parnassos II ran aground near Itea, Greece.   The Parnassos II had just left the port of Saint Nikolas when it suffered engine failure causing the vessel to drift aground.   The crew requested assistance with a local tug responding.  The tug was able to refloat the freighter and proceeded to the Bay of Itea.   The Parnassos II dropped anchor in the bay awaiting inspection for any possible damage.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Agios Nikolas

Agios Nikolas

The 180 meter long, 29192 dwt bulk freighter Agios Nikolaos went aground off Lavion, Greece.   The vessel was able to be refloated the same day and proceeded to Anayvssos for inspection.  The Agios Nikolaos was en route from Egypt to the Black Sea in ballast at the time.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
