Naval vessel aground off Vishakhapatnam
On January 30, the 124 meter long Indian Navy amphibious vessel Airavat ran aground off the coast of Vishakhapatnam. The Airavat, a Magar-class Landing Ship Tanker (LST), was returning back to port to the naval dockyard when it touched bottom. The LST had suffered damage to its propeller requiring it to go into drydock, but there were no injuries reported. The commanding officer was relieved of duty afterwards. The Indian Navy stated it has launched a probe into the incident.
