The 125 meter long, 8800 dwt container ship 3 Oak went aground on the Kiel Canal while en route to Rotterdam from Szczecin.  The 3 Oak had suffered engine failure and drifted onto the embankment.  Traffic on the canal was halted until the vessel was refloated later the same day.  The 3 Oak proceeded under its own power to Brunsbüttel where it was inspected before allowing the vessel continue on its voyage.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 135 meter long, 9200 dwt freighter Markborg suffered damage while transiting the Kiel Canal near Rendsburg, Germany.  The Markborg had sustained engine damage resulting in thick dense clouds of smoke belching out of the vessel’s stack.  The water police was alerted, but they allowed the Markborg to proceed under its own power to Brunsbüttel where it later moored awaiting repairs.  No reports of injuries.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.  The master of Markborg may be charged or fined by authorities for releasing pollution causing environmental damage.

The 90 meter long, 4757 dwt freighter Tim B allided with piling while entering the Kiel Canal at the lock at Brunsbüttel, Germany.  The pilings were broken free from the impact, but the Tim B did not suffer any damage.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  The Tim B was able proceed on it voyage through the Canal.
