The 50 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Sea Level ran aground in Bigfoot Slough off Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. The ferry with 16 passengers was headed to Ocracoke from Cedar Island when it slowed as it approached shallow water, but strong winds pushed the ferry onto a sandbar. The vessel remain aground for 3 hours until it was able to free itself on the rising tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The Sea Level proceeded to Ocracoke where it unloaded all the passengers and vehicles on board. Reports state the area is known to have rapid and changing shoals.

The 180 meter long, 37648 dwt bulk carrier Pola Palekh ran aground in the Beaufort Inlet near Morehead City, North Carolina. The Pola Palekh had entered the navigation channel at low tide bound for Morehead City with a cargo of 35,800 tons of fertilizer.  When the bulker was between buoys 16 and 17, the vessel went hard aground. The Coast Guard dispatched a response boat to the scene and inspected the Pola Palekh for damage. Traffic was halted for several hours until several tugboats were able to refloat the Pola Palekh on the rising tide. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 45 foot long fishing boat Captain Dump II became disabled off the Beaufort Inlet, North Carolina. The fishing vessel dropped anchor and contacted the Coast Guard for assistance. A Motor Lifeboat was dispatched to the scene and took the Captain Dump II under tow. The vessels proceeded into Beaufort Inlet where another fishing boat took over the tow. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
