The 345 meter long, 19189 dwt passenger ship Queen Mary 2 suffered an engine room fire while en route to Quebec, Canada. The fire started in one of the vessel’s gas turbines located below and behind the vessel’s funnel. The fire was quickly put out by the crew with minimal damage. No one was injured and the vessel proceeding on its voyage.
The 264 meter long, 6500 dwt passenger ship Mein Schiff 2 allided with a container crane while attempting to dock at Cadiz, Spain. The Mein Schiff 2 was pushed by a strong wind gust into the crane damaging several balcony cabins and several railings. Further attempts to dock were aborted and the passenger ship continued on to the next scheduled port of Malaga. No one was injured in the incident. Passengers who had their cabin damage were given different accommodations. The Mein Schiff 2 was on a twelve day cruise around western Europe.
The level of the Danube has led to several ship groundings. The self-propelled barge “Hall”, loaded with 850 tons of canola, went aground on a gravel bar on the Danube near Deggendorfer. The tug Domarin 12 was able to pull the “Hall” free. The “Hall” suffered damage to its bow thruster and is being detained by the Water Police.
The passenger vessel Primadonna was reported aground on a sand bank near the town of Bechet, Romania. The vessel with 150 passengers on board got stuck on the bank due to the low water levels. The passengers were safely unloaded and were continuing their trip overland. Reports state the were 28 other vessels detained in ports in Romania due to the low water level.
