SAKETA

The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Saketa went aground on the Rhine near Rüdesheim, Germany.  The barge was headed downstream when it steered out of the fairway and it’s bow ran aground.  The Saketa suffered hull damage and suffered water ingress in the foreship.  No reports of injuries.  The vessel requested assistance and the local fire brigade responded to the scene.  The fire brigade was to refloat the barge and tow it to the shorline where the vessel could be pumped dry.  Divers were able to apply a temporary patch to the hull to stop the ingress.  The Saketa was able to proceed under its own power to a shipyard for repairs.
