The 100 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Eiltank 24 went aground on the Rhine near Birsfelden, Switzerland. The Eiltank 24 was proceeding on the Rhine with 1800 tons of heavy oil when it struck bottom after locking through Birsfelden. The tanker-barge had sustained damage to its outer hull and proceeded to secure itself along the riverbank until authorities could arrive.  Traffic was halted on the Rhine in the Basel area until the Eiltank 24 could be fully inspected.

Reports state the inner hull of the Eiltank 24 had not been damaged and no pollution had been released. No reports of injuries.  Authorities have stated an investigation has been launched into the incident.

The 109 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Viktoria Jaegers and the 110 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Enjoy collided on the Rhine near Weißenthurm, Germany. The Viktoria Jaegers was en route to Karlsruhe from Rotterdam when it attempt to berth near the Enjoy.   As the tanker barge passed the berthed Enjoy, the Enjoy’s mooring lines snapped. The Enjoy drifted away from the berth and collided with the Viktoria Jaegers and another tanker barge. All three vessels sustained minor damage with the Enjoy sustained dents to its bow. No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Reports state the master of one of the tanker-barges was attempting to load a motor vehicle during the incident.

On October 14, the 105 meter long self-propelled barge Con Dios sustained damage while moored on the Rhine near Bingen, Germany. The Con Dios had been strucky by another vessel during the early morning hours. The Con Dios sustained hull damage including water ingress in the cargo hold, but the vessel’s pumps were able to control the flooding.

The Con Dios proceeded to Bingen where a diver was able to make temporary repairs. Reports state the Con Dios was headed to Rotterdam from Mannheim with 1250 tons of potash. No reports of injuries.
