Federal St. Laurent Aground

The 670 foot long, 34,372 dwt freighter Federal St. Laurent went aground on the St. Lawrence River west of the Eisenhower Lock near Massena, New York.  The Federal St. Laurent was loaded with titanium slag grounded near the bow and away from the vessel’s fuel tanks.  The freighter was later released and was able to proceed to the nearby anchorage where divers will conduct an underwater survey of the hull.  There were no injuries or pollution released.  The incident is under investigation.

Aground on the St. Lawrence River

The 144.2 meter long, 16600 dwt tanker Sten Suomi went aground on the St. Lawrence River near the town of Saint-Zotique, Quebec, Canada.  The Sten Suomi was proceeding up the St. Lawrence River in ballast when it dropped it’s anchor causing the bow to hit the river bottom.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.   The Sten Suomi is to be released later with the assistance from tugboats.  Officals are conducting an investigation into the incident.
