The 80 meter long self-propelled barge Samara caught fire while in the shipyard at Het Bosch in Zwartsluis, Netherlands. The fire started in the bow when repairs caused a short circuit.  The local fire brigade was called and was able to bring the blaze under control. No reports of injuries.

 

SV Georgiy Pobedonosets

SV Georgiy Pobedonosets

The 128 meter long, 5440 dwt freighter SV Georgiy Pobedonosets collided with the tug OT-2117 on the Volga River near Samara, Russia.  The Pobedonosets, loaded with steel from St. Petersburg, suffered a steering failure causing  it to veer into the tug who was pushing four barges.   The OT-2117 ‘s hull was holed causing significant water ingress.   The OT-2117 was able to run aground on a nearby shoal to avoid the engine room flooding or sinking.   No reports of injuries on either vessel.   No pollution was released into the water from the OT-2117.  The Pobedonosets was undamaged and proceeded on to Samara.  Reports state that the tug would be salvaged.   The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
