The 128 meter long, 5440 dwt freighter SV Georgiy Pobedonosets collided with the tug OT-2117 on the Volga River near Samara, Russia.  The Pobedonosets, loaded with steel from St. Petersburg, suffered a steering failure causing  it to veer into the tug who was pushing four barges.   The OT-2117 ‘s hull was holed causing significant water ingress.   The OT-2117 was able to run aground on a nearby shoal to avoid the engine room flooding or sinking.   No reports of injuries on either vessel.   No pollution was released into the water from the OT-2117.  The Pobedonosets was undamaged and proceeded on to Samara.  Reports state that the tug would be salvaged.   The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
