The fishing schooner Zinto Maru sank in the Kuril Strait near Kurilsk Island, Russia.  The Zinto Maru was overwhelmed in a  bad storm.   The crew of 14 were rescued by another fishing vessel.  No reports of injuries.   The Zinto Maru was based out of the port of Sakhalin Kholmsk Kong.   No further details reported.

Flying Dutchman

Flying Dutchman

The 40 meter long schooner Flying Dutchman became disabled while sailing in the IJsselmeer.  The schooner’s engine had failed and the vessel requested assistance from the KNRM.   The KNRM lifeboat was able to reach the scene and kept the schooner from going aground while waiting for a tug.   The tug took the Flying Dutchman under tow and proceeded to Urk, Netherlands.  The vessel was inspected and no reports of damage.   No injuries or pollution being released.

Schooner Aground

Schooner Aground

The 88 foot long two-masted schooner Wendameen went aground off Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay, Maine.  The vessel was passing by the north side of the island during low tide when it grounded.   The 49 passengers on board were transferred to the Portland fire boat and the Coast Guard rescue boat.   Reports state the vessel will be refloated on the next high tide.   No reports of injury or pollution being released.  The Wendameen had went aground previously on June 4 when it struck a charted wreck.   The incident is under investigation.
