Ferry Karya Terang sinks

The ferry Karya Terang sank off the coast of East Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia. The vessel was carrying around 66 passengers onboard when it was overwhelmed in bad weather. Waves upto 3 meters resulted in engine failure and the vessel to sink. Reports state there were 44 survivors.

The Panama registered cement carrier Xin Yi became disabled off the coast of Hsinchu, Taiwan, on route from China to Brunei. Reports have 18 members of the crew rescued by a nearby cruise ship, 1 body found and 3 crewmen missing.

The Panama registered freighter Dili Star sank off the coast near Kaohsiung in the Taiwan Strait. The 12 crewmen abandoned the ship by lifeboat and were later picked up by an Air Force helicopter. No serious injuries were reported.

Trawler sinks in North Sea

The Whitby trawler Defiant sank after running aground near Sandsend, North Yorkshire. The Coastguard was able to reach the trawler and secure a towline, but had to be release when the vessel rolled over and sank. All four crew members were rescued by the Coastguard.
