SKOPELOS

On May 9, the 229 meter long, 70146 dwt tanker Skopelos ran aground on the Wester Scheldt off Zaamslag, Netherlands. The tanker was aground just a short time as two tugs were requested to assist in refloating the tanker. The tugs were able to free the Skopelos later the same day and the vessels proceeded to an anchorage off Terneuzen.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On April 24, three vessels ran aground off the shore of Merak, West Java, Indonesia. The three vessels had been blown ashore by strong winds and waves reaching 4 meters. The vessel  LCT Batiwakkal Berau and tanker Soechi Chemical Permai I Jakarta washed ashore off Peacock Beach Hotel beach.  A third vessel ship ran aground around the beach Hotel Pelangi. A tug was unable to refloat the vessels. No reports of injuries.

On April 21, the 123 meter long, 3794 dwt tanker Palflot 5 ran aground on the Don River in the port of Azov, Russia. The Palflot 5 had departed from Volgograd with 2951 tons of vegetable oil when it ran aground after a navigational error. The tanker was able to refloat itself the same day.  No reports of damage, injuries or pollution released.
