The 230 dwt tanker Alvin went aground near Coron, Palawan, Philippines.   The double-hulled Alvin was loaded with 256,000 liters of diesel fuel when it grounded near the Coron Pier.  No reports of injuries and no pollution was released.   Authorities have placed booms around the vessel as a precautionary measure. A tug has been requested to refloat the tanker.

On October 15, the 96 meter long, 11628 dwt tanker Yong Win 3 capsized and sank off Little Liouchiou, Taiwan.   The tanker was carrying more than 5,000 tons of diesel fuel when the vessel developed a heavy list.  The crew sealed the tanker’s oil storage compartments before abandoning ship. A rescue boat was able to safely rescue all the crew.  No injuries were reported.  The Coast Guard stated that no major pollution has been spotted and patrol craft remain at the scene to monitor the situation. The cause of the heavy list was not known.

The 150 meter long tanker Solero allided with a lock gate to the entrance to the Kiel Canal at Holtenau, Germany.  The Solero had suffered an engine failure while mooring and  remained stuck in the lock during the night as repairs to the lock could not be made until the following day.   The northern lock was reopened to avoid a total closure to traffic.  A crane and work boat were brought to the scene to make emergency repairs.  No reports of injuries and no pollution was released.
