Volgo Don 203

On December 3, the 138 meter long, 5859 dwt cargo vessel Volgo Don 203 ran aground and partially sank in the Sea of Marmara near Kartal, Turkey. The cargo vessel was caught in a storm while passing through the Istanbul channel and was pushed up on the channel embankment. The Volgo Don 203 sustained several hull breaches near the stern resulting in water ingress. The engine room completely flooded causing the vessel to partially sink. All 14 crew on board were able to be evacuated by local authorities. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Reports state the Volgo Don 203  will be salvaged.

On November 9, the 79 meter long, 2182 dwt cargo vessel Mina I ran aground in the Marmara Sea off Maltepe, Turkey. The Mina I had been an anchor when strong winds by a storm caused the anchor to drag. The cargo vessel drifted until it ran up onto an embankment along the coast. No reports of injuries.  Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 73 meter long, 2858 dwt cargo vessel Mehmet Akin allided with a pier at Kocaeli Liman, Turkey. The Mehmet Akin, loaded with cement, was attempting to berth when it struck the pier. No reports of injuries. The cargo vessel sustained damage with a small hole above the waterline.  No pollution reported.
