Kemal Kuru

The 81 meter long, 3959 dwt Kemal Kuru went aground in Dardanelles near Gallipoli, Turkey.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  Authorities stated that the vessel was spotted on radar heading towards shallow water, but were unable to contact the Kemal Kuru.   The cause of the grounding was not reported.

Artey

The 114 meter long, 3584 dwt freighter Artey became disabled in the Dardenelles near Istanbul, Turkey.  The Artey had suffered engine failure after departing the Marmara Sea.   A tug was dispatched to the scene and took the Artey under tow to a nearby anchorage.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  The Artey was en route to Rostov-on-Don from Akcansa.

Yukka Update

Yukka Update

The 107 meter long, 3353 dwt  freighter Yukka sank near Eregli, Turkey.  The vessel had caught fire earlier while headed to Rostov-on-Don, Russia from Instanbul from an electrical short  in the crew’s cabin.  The crew was unable to get the fire under control and contacted the Turkish Coast Guard for assistance.  All 13 persons on board the Yukka were rescued and taken to Inebolu.  Two officers were slightly injured in the fire and were taken to hospital.   The Coast Guard was able to extinguish the blaze and took the Yukka under tow.   However, the vessel had suffered damage in the stern allowing water ingress into the engine room.   The Yukka settled by the stern.  Reports state the vessel was loaded with general cargo, including glass, ceramics and textile dye.
