Linda

The 68 meter long, 2818 dwt freighter Linda went aground at the 153 kilometer mark on the Volga-Caspian Sea Canal.   The freighter struck bottom, but did not suffer any damage.   Traffic was stopped on the canal until the vessel could be refloated.  The Linda was loaded with 1700 tons of cargo bound for Amirabad, Iran.

Sania

Sania

The 140 meter long, 7004 dwt freighter Sania ran aground on the Volga-Caspian Sea Canal near the 126.9 kilometer mark.   The master of the Sania ignored warnings from the pilot and traffic authorities before steering the vessel into shallow water.   A tug was dispatched and was able to refloate the vessel later the same day.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.   The Sania proceeded to Olya to be inspected.   The Sania was bound for Amirabad from Astrakhan with a cargo of 6080 tons of grain.

Begey Aground

Begey Aground

The 86 meter long, 1649 dwt freighter Begey loaded with 1587 metric tons of general cargo went aground on the Volga Caspian Sea Canal near the 153.5 kilometer mark.   The freighter was later refloated the same day by the icebreaker Kapitan Bukaev.  The Begey proceeded to Olya for to be surveyed for any damage.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.  The grounding was due to ice shove.
