Antje - WL 25

On February 26, the Antje WL 25 ran aground in the Wadden Sea off Lauwersoog, Netherlands. The KNRM was alerted and dispatched the lifeboat from Lauwersoog to the scene.  The lifeboat made an attempt to pull the trawler free, but strong winds and low tide kept the Antje hard aground.  Not until the following high tide the Antje was able to refloat itself and proceeded to Lauwersoog. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Monnik

The 58 meter long ferry Monnik  went aground in the Wadden Sea.  The vessel with 60 passengers on board was en route to Schiermonnikoog from Lauwersoog when the vessel struck a sandbank.  The vessel contacted the KNRM who dispatched lifeboats to the scene.   The lifeboats attempted to pull the ferry free, but the vessel was firmly stuck and it was decided to wait until the rising tide.   An hour later, the vessel refloated and proceeded to Schiermonnikoog.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.  Reports state the vessel grounded due to the strong winds in the area.  The Monnik was in a similar situation back in 2011.

Pieter van Aris Disabled

The trawler Pieter van Aris TX-21 became disabled after a cable snapped on one of the vessel’s boom while fishing in the Wadden Sea, Netherlands.  With the boom and fishing gear in the water, the Pieter van Aris became uncontrollable.  The crew contacted authorities and the KNRM launched a lifeboat from the Harlingen station.  Initial attempts to tow the trawler failed due to the strong currents in the area.  The second attempt was successful.  The crew of the Pieter van Aris cleared the broken gear from the vessel and was able to proceed under its own power.  No reports of injuries.
