Over 70 Perish in India Ferry Disaster
A ferry hit a sandbank and sank on the Muriganga river south of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The ferry was carrying approximately 220 passengers onboard. Reports place 90 survivors, 79 deaths and 50 as missing. Nearby fishermen were able to rescue some passengers from the water, but many were swept down the fast moving river.
