Tanker Alisa disabled

The 2174 dwt tanker Alisa becamed disabled off Vanino, Russia in the Sea of Japan. The Alisa’s engine and generator overheated when the cooling system failed. Tugs from Vanino were unable to connect a towline due to the bad weather and icing. The tanker was able to run engine for short periods to avoid drifting. Reports state a salvage vessel had offer to tow the tanker, but the master declined.

Vessel Jeljelet Ae sinks

The vessel Jeljelet Ae sank off the Likiep Atoll, Marshall Islands with 20 crew and passengers onboard. A few hours after the Jeljelet Ae left Majuro, it radioed that it was in trouble. The crew and passengers abandoned to a life raft which was spotted by a plane. A sport fishing vessel chartered by the Jeljelet Ae owner reached the life raft and rescue all 20 onboard. Reports state the vessel encountered heavy seas and the Jeljelet Ae was in poor condition. The owner stated the vessels were in need of refit and overhaul in drydock. The supply vessel was loaded with heavy equipment and building materials for a new school on Likiep Atoll.

Manik Mia-2 sinks

The lighter motor vessel Manik Mia-2 capsized and sank after colliding with another lighter vessel Addullah near the port of Chittagong, Bangladesh. The Manik Mia-2 was loaded with 1200 tons of cement clinkers from the motor vessel Jian Qiang heading for Narayanganj when it was struck by the Addullah which was empty. The 12 crewmen onboard the Manik Mia-2 were able to climb aboard the Addullah. Reports state the vessels were sailing in dense fog which led to the collision. Attempts to salvage the vessel are on going.
