Stella Polaris Disabled

The 24-meter long fishing vessel Stella Polaris suffered a machine failure and went adrift off Sankt Peter-Ording, Germany.   The Stella Polaris requested help as there was high winds and heavy swells.   The GRMS set out the rescue boat SK 33 from Busum, Germany, which took the Stella Polaris under tow.   Both vessels reached port later the same day.

Migrant Boat Sinks off Lampedusa

The 13-meter vessel was similiar to this one.

A 13-meter long motor vessel capsized and sank off the small island of Lampedusa, Italy.  The vessel was loaded with over 200 migrants encountered rough conditions after departing from Zuwarah, Libya.   The Malta Coast Guard began a search and rescue mission after someone on the vessel had used a satellite phone to make a SOS call.  Italian Coast Guard has rescued 48 survivors while a fishing vessel rescued another 3 from the water.   High winds and rough seas has hampered rescue efforts.  There are 130 to 250 people still reported as missing.

Nautica Ashore

Nautica Ashore

The 104-meter long self-propelled barge Nautica went aground on the Oostvaarder dam near Almere, Netherlands.  For an unknown reaseon, the vessel veered off course and struck the dam’s causeway.   The Nautica was refloated later with the assistance of several tugs.   All 3 crewmen reported uninjured.   No damage to the vessel or pollution was released.
