Clipper Develops a Leak

The 32 meter two-masted sailing clipper Bree Sant contacted the KNRM that it had developed a leak and requested an additional pump while sailing on the IJsselmeer in the Netherlands.   The Bree Sant with 24 people on board had a bilge pump which was able to keep the flooding in check, but the master wanted an additional pump if situation got worse.  Within minutes after the request, five lifeboats were en route with pumps.  After the pumps were placed on board the clipper, the water was pumped out.   The master decided that it was best to proceed to Makkum where the vessel could be lifted out of the water for repairs.   The lifeboats escorted the clipper to Makkum where it safely moored.   The cause of the leak is most likely a broken rivet.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
